AGM & Director Vacancies

Preparations are underway for the Coimhearsnachd Bharraidh agus Bhatarsaidh (CBaB) Annual General Meeting. It is to take place on Thursday 22 August at 7:30pm in Castlebay Hall. Prior to the general meeting, we will be going through an election process to elect company directors. Members of CBaB are encouraged to get involved in the process and nominate suitable candidates.
There are potentially 5 vacancies on the board. If more than 5 nominations are received, the membership of CBaB will vote on who will fill the vacancies via postal ballot.
It is very important we have a board of directors with a skill set that reflects the community and needs of Barra and Vatersay and that we have a high level of participation. We would encourage anyone living in Barra & Vatersay to become a member of the company and to participate in the election process. We always need new ideas, fresh approaches and people who have a vision for the future of our community. Being a director of an organisation like Coimhearsnachd Bharraidh agus Bhatarsaidh is an enjoyable and rewarding responsibility. You will be contributing to the development of the community and working towards securing their long-term sustainability and it is an excellent way to give something back to your community.
We currently have a board of nine elected directors. Four of these directors will be stepping down during this election period as per our articles of association. Some of them will be seeking re-election but not all. The four Directors required to stand down are Angela Foster, Sarah MacLean, Domhnall Uilleam MacLeod and Katie Denehy. We are therefore keen to encourage members to put their names forward to be elected to the board.
Director nominations open on 17 July. Prospective candidates must be nominated in writing by at least two other full members and must be a full member themselves. Nominations will close at 12pm the 29 July. You can download a nomination form at here.
The elections will open on the 6 of August and will close on the 21 of August. To ensure fairness and propriety, the process will be managed by the Electoral Reform Society. The ERS will send out postal ballots for the 6 August 2019 and will count the results, which will be announced on the 22 August 2019.
In advance of the voting, members' details will have been checked against the electoral roll. Please assist us by making sure the address you have provided matches your electoral roll registered address. If you need to update your details, please inform us via telephone (01871 810266) or email (
Yours sincerely,
Neil MacLennan
Chair of Coimhearsnachd Bharraidh & Bhatarsaidh.
